Fleetwood Neighborhood Association News! Mount Vernon Walk-A-Thon

Hello Neighbors!
 
I am pleased to announce that in cooperation with Mount Vernon Neighbors
That Care, Inc, Mount Vernon Neighbors United, the City of Mount Vernon, and
the Mount Vernon Educational Foundation, Inc. we are pleased to present the
annual Mount Vernon Walk-A-Thon.   This event will take place on Sunday,
October 26, 2008 from 1pm - 6pm.  A Four-Mile walk through the city, that
starts and ends at City Hall Plaza, the event is designed to bring together
neighborhoods and people from all over our city to raise money for charities
near and far.
 
The most special aspect of this walk is that walkers and pledgers can choose
what charity to raise money for.  Some may be walking for their own
Neighborhood Associations, some may walk for the Animal Shelter, Youth
Organization, or other charitable organization.  Some may walk for the
Sports or Academic programs.  Walkers and Teams choose the organization they
would like to support, and go out and walk for it!
 
The Fleetwood Neighborhood Association will be hosting a team for this
event!  Attached is the brochure and flyer.  We are asking all those
interested in joining the FNA Team to let Susan know no later than
Wednesday, October 22.  We have not yet finalized a list of charities to
whom we will donate the money to, so any suggestions are welcome, so long as
they are a fully registered 501(c)(3) organization and are based in and
serve the Mount Vernon population.  Some ideas include the Mt. Vernon Animal
Shelter, the Mt. Vernon Boys and Girls Club, the Mt. Vernon YMCA, the Mt.
Vernon Kiwanis Key Club, Mt. Vernon Elks, the list goes on and on.  
 
Walkers: If you're interested in walking, please print out the pledge form
and drum up some sponsors.  Sponsors can pledge as little as $0.25 and as
much as $25,000.  (or more, but let's not get ahead of ourselves!).  Have
your sponsors pay you the money upfront! (We have to have the money in hand
no later than the 26th ...) Then come to a quick meeting on Thursday,
October 23 at 131 Villa Street so we can organize our list of charities, the
amount pledged and raised for each charity, and our outfits!  Please note,
children are welcome to participate!  We do require a ratio of 1 supervising
adult for 10 children.
 
Pledgers: Can't walk that far or busy that day? No problem!  You can sponsor
a walker, help spread the word, or even raise the money and turn it in to
us, and we'll do the walking for you!  You can even come to the event, and
help us at our FNA table by talking about the Fleetwood Neighborhood
Association, our services, programs, and drumming up more membership.  
 
Other ways to help: Busy on the 26th, but free on the 25th? No problem!
We'll need help stuffing promotional bags and counting donations at the
First United Methodist Church from 10am - 2pm on Saturday, October 25th.
Even an hour of your time will be a huge help!
 
This promises to be a fun-filled and inspirational event.  A time when
everyone from our City is truly working together.  I hope the FNA team will
be a huge success with a lot of participation!
