I am sending this letter as an invitation to follow-up on the wonderful
LEGISLATIVE BREAKFAST SUMMIT that was held on Monday, October 27, 2008
between  state, county and city elected officials and the City of Mount
Vernon School Board Trustees and administration. As announced at that
breakfast, our next step is to convene a public meeting on January 15, 2009
at the City Council Chambers at Roosevelt Square in Mount Vernon between 7pm
and 9pm(sharp) to help identify a strategy that can address the needs of our
fiscally distressed School District. 

 

We expect to have video coverage of the conversation before an invited
audience of individuals representing stakeholder groups within our
community. We are attempting to establish an understanding of how our School
District has gotten to this point, and how we as a community can provide
sufficient clout to find and support some immediate and long term solutions.

 

                Please assist us by inviting movers and thinkers in our
midst- accountants, lawyers, religious leaders, and others whose interest in
Mount Vernon and its people would bring an important perspective to our
deliberation together. If this effort is successful, we would like to design
an implementable strategy, and discuss that strategy in this public forum.
with video capacity. that can thereafter be presented to the
community-at-large. We greatly appreciate the efforts of the City Council in
helping to facilitate and convene this important event to be hosted at City
Hall. We hope that all of our elected and school district officials will be
in attendance.
