Dear Susan et al: Although, I represent a landlord of some properties in
the Fleetwood area, and certainly am not privy to what many residents are
feeling. I have had mixed results about the closing of A&P. I understand
that there is a strong elderly population but there are is also a lot of
young people, all of whom do not seem to be shopping in the small retail
stores for deli, meat, fruits etc. This may be a time for everyone, before
a Supermarket comes, for people to revisit the small community stores and
see the benefits of an intimate one on one relationship that is usually
established with small stores. . Maybe this is a time for the community to
do a ³Lets shop in Fleetwood Campaign². Thank you. Mindy Schmidt

Susan et al

Talk about lack of communication - why is this fact just coming to light
now? Hasn't the Mayor and his staff been intimately involved with the whole
CVS/A&P situation. Has anyone from his office been attending the FNA meeting
regarding this matter? And what are they alluding to when they say
"negotiations for a new supermarket are progressing"? Did the City of Mt
Vernon have the power to stop this deal from being consumated & finalized,
considering the effect it was going to have on the whole Fleetwood
neighborhood?
